Course Overview

The Foundation Year develops essential academic and employability skills while introducing core computing concepts. In the following year, you will learn to interpret data, understand key theories in computing and IT, and apply problem-solving approaches across Technology, Software, and Data.


At Level 5, you will deepen your knowledge of computer science by applying techniques to real business and industry challenges. You will complete an industry-focused project and present your findings, strengthening your communication skills.
In the final year, you will further explore Technology, Software, and Data, applying advanced computer science principles across various sectors. Your studies conclude with a major project aligned to one of the core themes, demonstrating your critical thinking, technical skills, and ability to solve real-world problems.

Assessment

Written Assessment: 350 words reflective essay.

Assessments throughout the course 

Assessment is designed to allow you to demonstrate the full range of skills required in computing. You will be evaluated through essays, reports, simulations, presentations, projects, and group discussions.

Independent study is essential, and lecturers will guide you on how to approach this throughout the course. Assessment methods are reviewed annually and may be updated based on student and External Examiner feedback.

Entry Requirements

Applicants Must be Aged 18+ and:

  • Level 3 qualification (60 credits or 80 UCAS points)
  • English proficiency: GCSE 4/C or CEFR B1 (or take the university English test)

Applicants Aged 21+: 

  • Applications welcomed from those with relevant academic, professional, or vocational experience
  • English proficiency: GCSE 4/C or CEFR B1 (or take the university English test)
