Course Information

Course Overview

The Foundation Year equips students with essential academic and employability skills needed for successful progression. You will develop core competencies in project management fundamentals, management and leadership theories, and academic and professional practice. Emphasis is placed on practical abilities such as time management, critical thinking, problem-solving, and effective communication.

In Year 1, you will explore project management and business principles in greater depth. Study topics include project management theories and life cycles, business and management fundamentals, statistics, data analysis, and decision-making tools. You will also receive an introduction to project management software.

At Level 5, the programme focuses on key project management competencies, including quality and performance management, project planning and control, and approaches to managing projects efficiently and sustainably. You will also develop essential research skills relevant to the discipline.

In the final year, you will engage with advanced themes such as risk management, global project management, and project management for innovation and change. These modules are designed to build confidence in leading change and managing international projects. The programme concludes with a major project that allows you to apply your learning.

Assessments throughout the course

The programme adopts an authentic assessment strategy designed to immerse students in realistic business scenarios. This approach supports both module-specific and programme-level learning outcomes, allowing you to apply your own business ideas and receive detailed, developmental feedback.

Assessment methods provide opportunities to demonstrate a broad range of professional knowledge, skills, and competencies. These include essays, reports, real-life simulations, presentations, individual and group projects, and structured debates.

Independent study is essential for success on this course. Students are expected to complete research, homework tasks, and group activities outside of scheduled teaching, with lecturers offering guidance throughout the academic year.

Assessment methods are reviewed annually and may be updated based on student feedback, programme requirements, or recommendations from the External Examiner – an independent academic who ensures the integrity and standards of the assessment process.
