Psychology with Counselling with Foundation Year

Course Information

Course Overview

During the Foundation Year, you will develop essential academic, employability, and digital skills while being introduced to core principles in psychology and counselling.
In the subsequent year, the programme deepens your understanding of key psychological and counselling theories. You will learn to connect theoretical frameworks with practical application, emphasising evidence-based practice and the professional competencies required within the sector.
At Level 5, your studies advance to broader concepts, including diversity, human behaviour, and cultural context. You will explore how individuals, families, communities, and social groups differ, and how these differences shape identity and experience.
In the final year, the focus shifts to research and independent study. You will apply critical thinking and problem-solving skills to areas relevant to psychology and counselling, contributing to sustainable goals such as social impact, community engagement, and personal and professional growth.

Assessment

Assessments throughout the course

The course adopts an authentic assessment approach, placing you in realistic, work-related scenarios that support both module-level and programme-level learning outcomes. Many assessments allow you to develop your own business ideas, providing opportunities for detailed feedback and continued refinement.

Assessment methods include essays, reports, simulations, presentations, projects, and group debates, enabling you to demonstrate a broad range of knowledge, skills, and competencies relevant to the business environment.

Independent study is an essential component of the programme, and lecturers will provide guidance on effective study strategies throughout your course. Assessment methods are reviewed annually and may be updated in response to student feedback, subject developments, or recommendations from an External Examiner – an independent academic who ensures the integrity of academic standards.
