Counselling and Psychotherapy
Study counselling and psychotherapeutic approaches to develop ethical, reflective, and client-centred professional practice skills.
The Foundation Year provides an introduction to key concepts in psychology and business management while developing the academic and employability skills essential for higher education. You will build a strong foundation in areas such as critical thinking, communication, and independent learning.
In Year 1, you will deepen your understanding of the relationship between psychology and business. The curriculum focuses on core employability skills – including problem-solving, teamwork, and adaptability – to prepare you for professional environments where both disciplines intersect.
At Level 5, you will explore more advanced themes such as human resource management with an emphasis on equality, diversity, and inclusion, the psychology of leadership, entrepreneurship, and innovation. You will also examine digital marketing strategies through a business psychology lens, gaining insight into how psychological principles shape consumer behaviour and organisational communication.
In the final year, you will apply your knowledge to complex organisational challenges and develop strategic approaches to business transformation. You will study the psychological dimensions of online communication and virtual interaction, which are increasingly relevant in today’s digital landscape. Additional modules focus on strategic decision-making, negotiation techniques, and career development, enabling you to identify professional pathways that leverage both business and psychological expertise. The final project offers the opportunity to apply your learning to real-world issues, further enhancing your analytical and problem-solving capabilities.

Assessments throughout the course
The programme employs an authentic assessment strategy that places students in realistic business and psychology-related scenarios. This approach supports both module-specific and programme-wide learning outcomes, allowing you to apply your own business ideas and receive constructive feedback to further develop your proposals.
Assessment methods are designed to measure a broad range of knowledge, skills, and competencies essential in business and psychology. These include essays, reports, real-life simulations, presentations, individual and group projects, and structured debates.
Independent study is a key component of the programme. You will be expected to complete research, homework tasks, and group work outside scheduled teaching hours, with lecturers providing ongoing guidance.
Assessment methods are reviewed annually and may be updated based on student feedback, subject developments, or recommendations from the External Examiner – an independent academic who oversees the maintenance of academic standards.
